sherri_shewartBIRMINGHAM, AL (January 16, 2013) -- The Mattie C. Stewart Foundation (MCSF) has named Sherri Stewart as its executive director. Stewart comes to the MCSF after a successful 27-year career in broadcast management with Sheridan Broadcasting Corporation's WATV-AM radio in Birmingham. She replaces Phil Christian, who served in the post since the Foundation's inception, and who is departing the MCSF for a private sector executive marketing role.

Sherri Stewart is the daughter of MCSF founder and o2ideas President and CEO Shelley Stewart, and is the granddaughter of Mattie C. Stewart. Shelley Stewart founded the MCSF in 2007 to help combat the nation’s growing high school dropout rate. The Foundation is active in 47 U.S. states and has reached more than 11 million children, parents and educators with the stay-in-school message.

"The meteoric rise in the impact of The Mattie C. Stewart Foundation has been amazing to observe. It is humbling to not only serve in this organization named after my grandmother, but to also see how her legacy lives on through America's children, whose lives are being saved by the Foundation's message," Sherri Stewart said.

"We are proud to have Sherri take on this role at The Mattie C. Stewart Foundation," Shelley Stewart said. "Her executive management experience, plus her direct heritage from our Foundation's namesake, is the right mix at the right time. Interestingly, she even shares the same birthday as her late grandmother," he said.

"At the same time, we applaud the great work Phil Christian did in helping the Foundation during its formative years, and wish him well in his next endeavors. We expect that Sherri will see the Foundation expand its reach and impact with America's youth in the years ahead," Stewart said.
